Man Slashed in Face in Fight Outside Brooklyn Food Stamp Office, Police Say

BROOKLYN — A man was slashed in the face after getting into a fight with four other men in Downtown Brooklyn, police said.

The 31-year-old man got into an argument with the four men outside 253 Schermerhorn St., which houses the Brooklyn Food Stamp Department, around 3:20 p.m. on March 30, the NYPD said.

During the dispute, one of the men pulled out a knife and slashed the victim on the right side of the face, police said.

Authorities did not say what the men were arguing about.

The victim was taken to Methodist Hospital for treatment, police said.

It was unclear if the Brooklyn Food Stamp Department was open at the time.

Other recent crimes in the 84th Precinct include:

► A man took an iPhone 7 and an iPhone 7 Plus worth $1,520 from a display shelf at the AT&T store at 115 Court St. around 2:10 p.m. on March 28 before swinging a pair of clippers at a 24-year-old witness and fleeing, police said. An employee at the store declined to comment.

► A man stole $2,283 in assorted vitamins from the CVS at 30 Flatbush Ave. around 8:30 a.m. on March 30 by placing them in a black duffel bag and fleeing on foot, police said. A manager at the store declined to comment. 

► A man stole $20 in merchandise from Gold Street Market at 257 Gold St. around 7:15 p.m. on March 31, then punched the store’s owner following a dispute, police said. 

Owner Saleh Alshataf said the man punched him in the face after he tried to confront him for stealing some merchandise, but he didn’t specify what the man was trying to steal.

Police arrested Shatee Denmark, 28, and he was charged with robbery, assault, petit larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, menacing and harassment, officials said. His attorney was not immediately available for comment. Denmark is being held on $5,000 bond and is due back in court on April 7th.

Denmark was previously arrested in October of 2015 for attacking police officers as they were trying to arrest him on an open warrant
