WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — The suspected hit-and-run driver who killed popular DJ Jinx Paul in East New York turned himself in to police Friday — the same day a funeral was being held for the victim.

Kevin Ozoria, 27 of Washington Heights, walked into the NYPD's 75th Precinct on Friday, according to police. He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death and tampering with physical evidence.

The DJ, whose real name was Jean Paul Guerrero, worked for radio station La Mega 97.9 FM.

He had finished DJing a party in East New York and was trying to get a cab back to his home in Harlem when he was fatally hit by a black four-door sedan while crossing Jamaica Avenue at about 4 a.m. Monday.

A wake and funeral service were scheduled from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the R G Ortiz Funeral Home at 4425 Broadway near 190th Street, according to reports. His body will later be flown to his home country of Ecuador, according to NY1.

Police officials had previously said the hit-and-run driver might have been a woman — after saying they had surveillance video of a woman hopping out of the sedan that hit Guerrero.

Shortly before the suspect turned himself in, NBC New York reported that police were investigating a black sedan with windshield damage that was dropped off at a Brooklyn auto body shop by a man the same day as the crash.

“It is a man who was filled with humbleness, happiness,” station manager Eric Garcia said of Guerrero.

“He was the soul of our radio station, beloved by everybody.”
