MANHATTAN — A woman accused of shoving a straphanger into the side of an N train Monday was arrested the next day for smoking a cigarette inside Union Square station, according to the NYPD.

Patricia Abraham, 62, allegedly pushed a woman, 50, from behind into the side of the N train that was pulling into the Prince Street station on Monday at 4:50 p.m., an NYPD spokesman said. To get away from Abraham, the victim got on the train and later reported what happened to the police, according to the New York Daily News, which first reported the incident.

The victim sustained pain in her left shoulder, neck and back, police said. She told police that the suspect appeared to be homeless, agitated or mentally disturbed.

The next day at 3:20 p.m., Abraham was smoking a lit cigarette inside the Union Square station — a violation of local law, according to the NYPD spokesman. She was arrested and taken to Bellevue Hospital for evaluation, police say.

She was then charged with two felonies — assault in second degree, and reckless endangerment — and assault in the third degree, a misdemeanor, for Monday's incident, according to police.

Police say Abraham is still in Bellevue.
