BUSHWICK — Around 100 neighborhood galleries will open their doors this week for the 10th annual Bushwick Open Studios art crawl showcasing sculpture, paintings and photography created by local artists.

Among hundreds of other artists who will be featured this weekend include local cartoonists and illustrators who'll display their work at Kave Espresso (1087 Flushing), Carolina Arévalo's galactic drawings on display at 44 Steward Ave. and the surreal photography of Zach Hyman going on view at the Dock Studios at 272 Morgan Ave.

There will be eight information tables around the neighborhood where you can get details on all the participating galleries and surrounding events during the weekend.

Organizers Arts in Bushwick, a umbrella collective of local artists, moved the crawl from its usual spring celebration to the fall this year to distance themselves from Bushwick Collective's massive block party and to refocus on the work of neighborhood artists, organizers said at a town hall meeting this spring.

They also wanted the art crawl to link up with the Bushwick Film Festival, which runs from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1.

Arts in Bushwick is also releasing a book to celebrate their decade in the neighborhood and hosting an exhibit of their own called "Seeking Space: Making The Future." They did an open call to area artists and will exhibit the work of 305 of them at David & Schweitzer Contemporary at 56 Bogart. St.

The goal of the exhibit was to rope in a broad array of artists and ask them to consider Bushwick's future in the pieces they submitted.

"What can it look like?" organizers wrote on their website. "How can we manifest the future we want to experience?"

Arts in Bushwick organizers declined to comment for this story.
