Cash Stolen from Safe of Speedy Romeo for 2nd Time This Month, Police Say

CLINTON HILL — A safe containing nearly $3,000 was stolen from popular pizzeria Speedy Romeo in the second such burglary at the eatery this month, police said.

The unidentified burglar or burglars crawled into the restaurant at 376 Classon Ave. through a back window that was left open sometime between 11 p.m. on Aug. 22 and 9 a.m. on Aug. 23, according to the police report.

The pizza joint's safe containing $2,900 in cash was stolen from the basement, along with some bike tires, police said.

Earlier this month, $1,000 was stolen from a safe in the restaurant’s basement after a thief or thieves snuck in through an open window, police said. 

Police did not say whether the two incidents were connected.

The restaurant's owners declined to comment.

Other notable crimes from DUMBO, Downtown Brooklyn, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill include: 

► A 23-year-old man was attacked and mugged around 1:15 a.m. on Aug. 22 by a group of three suspects who said they had a gun in front of 215 Willoughby Ave. in Clinton Hill, police said,

► A man walked into the Brooklyn Industries at 70 Front St. in DUMBO around 6:45 p.m. on Aug. 22 and stole $2,880 in items from the front of the store. A manager at the store declined to comment. 

► A 25-year-old man was arrested after he stole his ex-girlfriend’s car keys around 7 p.m. on Aug. 22 near Fleet Place and Willoughby Street in Downtown Brooklyn. Police said the man climbed into the trunk of the car and crawled to the center console, then took the keys and ran off.

► A 46-year-old man beat a 31-year-old man with a wooden stick during an argument around 8:30 p.m. on Aug 22 near 40 Putnam Ave. in Clinton Hill. Police said the suspect hit the man so hard that the stick shattered into pieces.

► A cabdriver drove off with a woman’s $4,300 purse while she went to get change after he asked her to leave it in the car as collateral around 2:15 p.m. on Aug. 27 at Hanover Place and Livingston Street in Downtown Brooklyn. The purse had $1,411 in cash inside, police said.

► A suspect walked into Propel Bikes at 134 Flushing Avenue and stole a $9,520 Stromer ST25 bike around 5 p.m. pm Aug. 27, police said. A manager at the store declined to comment.
