20 Arrested In Saturday Protests, Police Say

NEW YORK CITY — More than 20 people were arrested Saturday as hundreds of protesters marched for a third straight night in the wake of high-profile shootings by law enforcement in New York, Louisiana and Minnesota, according to police and reports.

Groups of protesters, some crossing the Williamsburg Bridge from Brooklyn and others starting at City Hall, marched in support of the victims of police violence, with some marching up Broadway to Union Square and as far as Grand Central Station, while briefly shutting down major roads including FDR Drive, according to multiple outlets.

While police officials did not have a final number of those arrested at the protests, as many as 23 were confirmed by an NYPD spokesman Sunday.

The roughly four-hour protest in New York echoed similar marches in Chicago, St. Louis and other cities, after two high-profile shootings last week in which Alton Sterling was shot dead by police in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Philando Castile was killed during a traffic stop in Minnesota.

Protesters also held signs in support of Delrawn Small, who was fatally shot by an off-duty officer during a July 4 road rage incident. Small's nephew Zayanahla Vines helped lead the protests Saturday, according to Gothamist

Marchers chanted and held signs with messages like "Black Lives Matter." Others held signs supporting the victims of Dallas shooter Micah Xavier Johnson, the sniper who killed five officers and injured 12 others after a similar protest in Dallas last week, according to reports.
