Golden Sound Electronics closed its doors Thursday after nearly four decades selling everything from watch batteries and phones to rare radios.

The shop, on Broadway between 78th and 79th streets, shuttered due to rising rents after first opening in 1977, said Tiffany Mum, daughter of owner David Mum.

During its final hours, saddened patrons streamed in to give hearty goodbyes to David Mum and buy some remaining items from the mostly barren shop.

“It’s a very tight-knit community,” Tiffany Mum said. “He’s worked really hard here and people are sad to see him go."

In addition to selling modern items like cellphones, Good Sounds featured a selection of Tivoli radios, a high-end brand that very few stores in the city carry, she addded.

David Mum plans to continue doing special projects for customers even after the space is gone for good, his daughter said.

Customers said they're very sorry to see it go.

“This was an incredibly useful store with people who cared about their customers,” said Tony Smith, who has lived across the street for decades. “It’s the last store in the neighborhood that was emotionally part of the community.”
