MELROSE — A man was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Thursday for killing a blind woman and throwing her body off of the roof in 2013, according to the Bronx District Attorney's Office.

Duvale Stevens, 38, was socializing with 49-year-old blind woman Andrea Hurd in her apartment at 367 E. 154th St. early in the morning on March 27, 2013 when they got into an argument that became heated, the Bronx DA's Office said.

Stevens grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed Hurd about 28 times before carrying her body up to the roof and throwing it off, after which he went back to her apartment and fell asleep in her bed, where police found him the next morning, according to the Bronx DA's Office.

He pled guilty to manslaughter on April 25, and Justice Alvin Yearwood sentenced him to 25 years in prison on Thursday.

“The victim, Andrea Hurd, treated the defendant as a friend, and he viciously stabbed her, callously disposed of her body and then slept in her apartment as if nothing had happened," Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said in a statement. "Now he will serve 25 years for this savage crime.”
