14-Year-Old Arrested for Spitting On, Threatening and Punching Jewish Teen

CROWN HEIGHTS — A 14-year-old boy was arrested Wednesday for verbally threatening, spitting on and punching a 14-year-old Jewish boy outside of a Crown Heights high school, police sources said.

The brief altercation occurred around 10:30 a.m. outside of Oholei Torah Mesivta, a Jewish high school for boys, at 417 Troy Ave. when the teenager approached a group of Jewish students and said “f-cking Jews” and “I'll kill you all” to the victim, sources said.

The 14-year-old then spit on the Jewish teen and punched him in the face, police said.

Video of the incident obtained by DNAinfo New York shows the two boys facing off on the sidewalk and street outside the school, surrounded by a dozen or more students.

During the assault, students alerted a school security guard who held the assailant for police. NYPD officers arrested the teen soon afterwards, and he is currently in custody, police sources said.

Police said the incident is being investigated by the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force.

This is not the first time the victim has been involved in a bias-related attack in the neighborhood. The 14-year-old Jewish boy was punched by a stranger on the street in 2013 as part of a string of “knock out” assaults in Brooklyn, a source close to his family said.

Wednesday’s incident is the latest in a series of crimes investigated by the Hate Crimes Task Force in Crown Heights in recent weeks.

Last month, five young boys were arrested for setting fire to a bus parked outside a Jewish school. Three weeks later, a 14-year-old was charged with a hate crime for grabbing a yarmulke and hat off the head of a Jewish teenager on Eastern Parkway.
