WEST VILLAGE — Bell Book & Candle, the West 10th Street eatery that prides itself on sourcing most of the produce for its seasonal fare from its own aeroponic rooftop garden, has launched a special Sunday Soul Brunch featuring a slate of new Southern-style dishes and cocktails.

The "rooftop to table" basement-level restaurant at 141 West 10th St. regularly serves up local, organic and sustainable food and has a well-trafficked weekday happy hour.

The new brunch menu includes: andouille housemade sausage gumbo (above); sustainable blue catfish served with peas, carrots, Tabasco lemon remoulade and a corn muffin; cast-iron mac and cheese; spiced shrimp chilled with a house cocktail sauce; fried chicken with mashed potatoes, braised kale and chicken gravy; and a pressed Louisiana-style muffaletta sandwich served warm and made with cured meats, provolone and olive giardiniera.

A special menu of cocktails with names like "Soup of the Day," "Margaux Hemingway," "Naked Lunch" and "Heads Will Roll" range from $12 to $15 and include a cinnamon margarita, an extra dirty vodka martini with house blue cheese olives and a Manhattan made with blackberry-infused rye. A "flight" of four artisanal bourbons is also available for $25.

One of the new cocktails is The Gaffney, made from Old Forester bourbon, peach lemon, honey and sage. Photo courtesy of Bell Book and Candle

And the Sunday Soul Brunch experience includes weekly performances by the LaFredrick Soul Band.

The new menu premiered on Mother's Day will be available every Sunday throughout the summer.
