UPPER EAST SIDE — A Bronx woman stabbed a straphanger in the leg while riding the 5 train, the NYPD said.

Nicole Brown, 46, stabbed a 26-year-old woman in the right thigh with an unknown object at about 11:25 a.m. Saturday, causing a small puncture wound, authorities said.

Brown had been talking loudly into her cellphone when the victim sat next to her on the train, police said. It was not clear if that sparked a confrontation.

After the stabbing, both women got off the southbound train at the 59th Street-Lexington Avenue stop and the victim immediately pointed out Brown to a police officer.

She was arrested a short time later in the station, but officers couldn't find a weapon on her, police said.

The victim's wound required stitches, according to the criminal complaint.

Brown was charged with felony assault, and her bail was set at $10,000. She is being held at Rikers Island pending her next court date on May 13.

Her attorney did not immediately return a call for comment on Monday.

Brown had previously been arrested for an assault in 2005, police said.

Stabbings and slashings have been on the increase and were up 20 percent in the first few months of 2016, according to the NYPD.
