New York Antiquarian Book Fair

Where: Park Avenue Armory, 643 Park Ave., Upper East Side
When: Friday from noon to 8 p.m., Saturday, from noon to 7 p.m., and Sunday, from noon to 5 p.m.

More than 200 American and international dealers will be selling their wares inside the Park Avenue Armory's large drill hall. Fair-goers can expect to find rare and sundry items, including the original manuscript for the fourth Batman comic, a signed first edition of "Where the Wild Things Are," and Robert Frost's personal walking stick.

Michael Alan Solo Exhibit

Where: Tanja Grunert Gallery, 524 W. 19th St., Chelsea
When: Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Bushwick artist Michael Alan is bouncing back from a medical scare with an exhibit in Chelsea that showcases his drawings, oil paintings and collages. His work, he says, is about “accepting it all” — from good to bad, sickness to health — and reflects “the madness of life.”

The International Yemen Film & Arts Festival

Where: Friday events are at the Hagop Kevorkian Center at NYU, 50 Washington Square S., Greenwich Village. Saturday and Sunday events are at the Cooper Union’s Frederick P. Rose Auditorium, 41 Cooper Square, East Village.
When: Friday from 4 to 11 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 3 to 11 p.m.

The Yemen Peace Project will strive to foster a deeper understanding between the United States and Yemen with its festival showcasing the works of Yemeni artists and filmmakers. Attendees of Friday's opening reception and exhibition at NYU will get to explore paintings, sculptures, and drawings from emerging artists, while festival goers Saturday and Sunday can view a series of short films and documentaries about life in Yemen and the devastation of the country's ongoing war.

Marimekko for Target at the High Line

Where: The Highline between West 13th and West 14th Streets, Meatpacking District
When: Friday through Monday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Marimekko and Target's collaboration is producing clothing and home goods emblazoned with the high-end Scandinavian designer's 1960s mod prints at Target prices. Two giant inflatable egg-shaped tents on and under the High Line this weekend will have the good for sale, as well as swings and sofas to hang out on and take selfies. Admission is free and open to the public.

Wine & Food Tasting at the Manse

Where: Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church, 921 Madison Ave., Upper East Side
When: 7 p.m.

Sample five American wines paired with hors d'oeuvres with the Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church while looking out at Central Park from the manse’s windows. $35 per person, and RSVP suggested at mts@mapc.com, 212-288-8920, ext. 8479.

Lecture on Psycho-Expressionism

Where: Malcolm X & Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial & Education Center, 3940 Broadway, West 165th Street, Washington Heights
When: 6 p.m.

Journalist Adrian Cabreja will discuss a new art movement pioneered in the '90s by the artist Oscar Abreu, as part of the first-ever Dominican Arts Fair in Washington Heights. Cabreja will talk about the movement’s use in the visual and lettered arts.

Free Friday at the Morgan

Where: Morgan Library and Museum, 225 Madison Ave. between East 36th and East 37th streets in Midtown
When: 7 to 9 p.m.

Get into the Morgan Library & Museum for free this Friday. Currently on show is an exhibit of Andy Warhol's forays into printed art, and for music lovers, a jazz band will be performing.

Saturday April 9

► Cuddle Kittens and Cats at a SoHo Spa

Where: 456 West Broadway, SoHo
When: Noon to 5 p.m.

Complimentary kitten cuddling will be available to all spa-goers at the Aveda Lifestyle Salon in SoHo. The cats are all up for adoption for a $10 fee.

Bernie Sanders’ Harlem Block Party and Volunteer Event

Where: 175 W. 137th St., Harlem
When: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Bernie Sanders is making the opening of his new Harlem space official with a block party and volunteer information event. The event will show Bernie supporters how to knock on doors and handle the phone banks. 

Story Time: Tales on Sugar Hill featuring Sonia Manzano

Where: Sugar Hill Children's Museum of Art & Storytelling, 898 St Nicholas Ave. and 155th St., Sugar Hill

When: 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Join Sonia Manzano, also known as “Maria” from Sesame Street, as she reads from her new children’s book, Becoming Maria: Love and Chaos in the South Bronx.

The Eighth Annual Rainbow Book Fair

Where: John Jay College, 524 W. 59th St.

When: April 9, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

John Jay College is hosting an annual LGBT book fair this weekend on campus. The fair “attracts readers and writers of course, but also publishers, editors, agents, and media attention – people who have never experienced queer culture, and others who have made it the focus of their lives.” 

Sunday, April 10

Spring Seed Planting at Elizabeth Street Garden

Where: Elizabeth Street between Prince and Spring streets, Nolita
When: 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Help the volunteers at the Elizabeth Street Garden in Nolita plant seeds for herbs and vegetables. The seeds will be kept in mini-greenhouses until it's warm enough to transplant them outside into the garden. The event is kid- and grownup-friendly.

Chocolate Fest at 92Y

Where: 92nd Street Y, 92nd Street and Lexington Avenue, Upper East Side
When: 7:30 p.m.

A slew of purveyors will display their chocolatey treats at the Chocolate Fest this year, including a chocolate liquor, and there will be classes on how to pair wine and cheese with chocolate as well.

Commemoration of Genocide Against Tutsi in Rwanda

Where: Museum of Jewish Heritage, 36 Battery Pl., Battery Park City
When: 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Honor the survivors and commemorate those lost in the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is requested.

Family Folk Rock Concert: Elizabeth Mitchell & You Are My Flower

Where: The Jewish Museum, Fifth Avenue and 92nd Street, Upper East Side
When: 11:30 a.m.

Singer and guitarist Elizabeth Mitchell, her 14-year-old daughter Storey, and husband Daniel Littleton, musicians Simi Stone and the M Shanghai Stringband will perform classic folk songs. $18 per adult, $13 per child.

Civil War Anniversary and Reenactments at the New-York Historical Society

Where: New York Historical Society, 170 Central Park West
When: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

To mark the 151st anniversary of Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendering to Union General Ulysses S. Grant, the New-York Historical Society will hold a special day devoted to learning about the Civil War. There will be soldiers from the First Long Island Volunteers wearing uniforms and stationed at the museum, as well as talks about life on the battlefield and demonstrations. Visitors will even learn a military drill. The event is free and all ages are welcome.
