THE BRONX — The man who accidentally shot a 3-year-old boy in the arm during the summer of 2013 has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for his crime, according to the Bronx District Attorney's Office.

Alexis Tatis, 29, shot the child and Shane Schoffner, then 34 years old, inside Vidalia Park in West Farms on the evening of Aug. 30, 2013, the Bronx DA's Office said.

Tatis had gotten into a fistfight with Schoffner earlier that day, left the park and returned around 5:45 p.m. with a semi-automatic pistol, court documents and the DA said.

He fired four shots from the gun, hitting Schoffner in the leg and the 3-year-old in the arm, prosecutors said.

A jury convicted Tatis of the crime on March 8, and Judge John Carter sentenced him to 15 years behind bars on Thursday.
