THE BRONX — The man accused of murdering a 17-year-old girl by throwing her off of a roof in The Bronx in 1989 was arraigned via video from Bellevue Hospital on Wednesday in Manhattan Criminal Court.

Scott Parrilla, 46, is charged with murdering Noellis Bayanilla by throwing her off the roof of a five-story building at 2645 Morris Ave. around 5 a.m. on Aug. 6, 1989, prosecutors charge.

Bayanilla then died from her injuries at a local Bronx hospital, according to the criminal complaint.

Police were able to link Parrilla to the crime last year by taking DNA from under Bayanilla's fingernails and matching it to him, according to the NYPD.

He had initially denied knowing the victim, telling police, "I did not know Noellis Bayanilla."

However, Bronx prosecutor April Cohen said that Parrilla did know Bayanilla. The victim asked him to walk her home on the day of the murder, and then he wanted to have sex with her once they got to the roof of the building, according to the Daily News.

Parrilla was ordered held without bail and is due back in court on April 7, according to the Bronx District Attorney's Office.

He is a registered sex offender, and he has been arrested 20 times for charges including robbery, rape and assault, according to the NYPD.

Parrilla's attorney Jeffrey Bloom did not respond to a request for comment.
