THE BRONX — A man was arrested for a fatal shooting Tuesday night, about 18 hours after pretending he was shot during a bike robbery in Longwood, police said.

Adonijah Colbourne, 28, rode his bike up to 1023 Rev. James Polite Ave., near East 165th Street, at 3:57 a.m. Tuesday while Rahim Minkins, 22, stood outside, police said.

The two then exchanged gunfire and Colbourne fled the scene on foot, leaving his bike at the scene, an NYPD spokesman said.

Minkins, who lived in Parkchester's Bronx River Houses, was hit in the head and torso, police said. He was pronounced dead at Lincoln Medical Center.

Colbourne, of Morrisania, was hit in the left leg, but managed to make his way to East 166th Street, where he called 911, police said.

He was listed in stable condition at the same hospital, officials said.

Colbourne told police that someone shot him while stealing his bike, an NYPD spokesman said.

But an eyewitness later said that he fatally shot Minkins, the spokesman added.

Colbourne was arrested at 10:22 p.m. Tuesday, police said. He faces charges of murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon, NYPD officials said.

Colbourne has been arrested 15 times before, most recently on drug charges in June 2014, police said.
