LONGWOOD — One man was killed and another wounded by a bicyclist who rode up and shot them in Longwood Tuesday morning, police said.

The men, ages 22 and 28, were outside 1023 Rev. James Polite Ave., near East 165th Street, about 3:57 a.m., when a man rode up and shot them, an NYPD spokesman said.

The 22-year-old, whose name was not released, was hit in the head and torso, police said.

He was pronounced dead at Lincoln Medical Center, police said.

"I heard about six shots. I ran downstairs and saw his body laying lifeless by the red Jeep. He was on his stomach," said neighbor Gayle Nicole, a 27-year-old friend of the victim.

"There were a lot of people trying to help him. I told them to apply pressure to the wound, elevate his head, check his pulse. But he wasn't responding."

The other victim fled the scene after he was shot in the left leg but called 911 from East 166th Street and was taken to the same hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, police said.

The shooter left his bike at the scene when he fled, an NYPD spokesman said.

There were no immediate arrests, police said.

The22-year-old attended Nicole's children's birthday party on Saturday.

"He was playing with [the kids]. He gave them $2 each. We gave him a plate of food, some birthday cake," she said.

"He was a happy guy. He was always smiling."

He was remembered as generous and considerate.

"He was a stand-up guy, real humble. He liked music. He was a bike fanatic," said Anthony Roseboro.

"His dream was the same dream we all got: stay alive and make it out of the hood. He'd protect the world if he could," Roseboro said.
