INWOOD — A nightclub that had its liquor license suspended in May a week after a fight between patrons led to a deadly shooting in front of the venue has been evicted, according to a notice from the city.

Tette Club was evicted from its location at 154 Post Ave. on Aug.12, according to a notice of legal possession posted at the site by the city’s Office of the Marshal.

A legal possession returns control of a property from a tenant to a landlord. It differs slightly from the legal definition of an eviction in that the tenant’s belongings are left on-site until the tenant can arrange to transport them, rather then being removed to a warehouse under the marshal’s supervision.

A notice of legal possession was posted on the club's door.

Tette has been out of operation since May 15, when it was closed by a joint effort between the Worker’s Compensation Board and the NYPD.

Four days later, the State Liquor Authority imposed an emergency order of suspension of the club’s liquor license. The suspension was based on the shooting, as well as other recent incidents of fighting, out-of-control crowds and after-hour alcohol sales, a spokesman for the SLA said at the time.

The May 10 shooting, which police said was the result of a fight between patrons who had just departed from Tette, left one man dead and a second man seriously injured, authorities said.

Manuel Garcia was listed as the head of both D.Y.M.G. Enterprises, the landlord named in the eviction noticed, and Melodia Corp, the corporate entity behind Tette, according to public business records from 2008.

The club also faced disciplinary action from the SLA under Garcia’s ownership in 2008. Helen Salcedo Romero took over the business in March 2014 and is listed as the licensee in SLA records.

The SLA later canceled Romero's liquor license for Tette at a July 2015 disciplinary hearing, according to hearing documents.

Romero did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

It is unclear whether or not Garcia was still involved in the operation of Tette at any level.
