Monday, August 17

Free Skin Cancer Screening

Where: An RV in front of the Rite Aid at 534 Hudson St., West Village
When: 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. (and on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.)

Save money on a pricey New York dermatologist and get a free skin cancer screening from volunteer dermatologists courtesy of the Skin Cancer Foundation, who are doing a 35-stop tour around the Mid-Atlantic this summer. Their RV holds two private exam rooms and they promise each screening is quick, and comes with advice about how to prevent skin cancer — including how to do recommended monthly self-exams — and protect your skin. The Skin Care Foundation says their volunteers have caught more than 8,500 suspected cancers in the past seven years, including more than 350 suspected cases of melanoma. Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the U.S., they said, but is the easiest to cure if caught early.

Free Film Screening: "Frozen"

Where: Randall’s Island at Field 80
When: 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Beat the summer heat with a screening of Frozen. Park staff will have free ice pops and Frozen giveaways to help people get in the winter mood.

Tuesday, August 18:

BeerProv Comedy Show

Where: Littlefield, 622 Degraw St., Gowanus
When: 8 p.m.

Canadian comic Jim Robinson hosts this competition, in which nine performers improvise scenes based on audience suggestions. Competitors are eliminated one by one until the last comic standing gets to drink a beer from the “Mug of Champions.” Tickets are $6 to $10.

"The Incredibles" screening in Red Hook

Where: Valentino Park or Atelier Roquette, Red Hood
When: 8:30 p.m. or when its dark enough

A suburban family of superheros springs into action to save the world in this 2004 Disney animated movie.

Free Sunset Salsa Lesson on the Hudson

Where: Pier 45, Hudson River Park, Greenwich Village
When: Lesson starts at 6:30 p.m., DJ'ed party starts at 7:15 p.m.

This is your last chance to learn salsa on the water this summer as these weekly Tuesday night lessons conclude this week. Instructor Talia Castro-Pozo starts the schooling at 6:30 p.m., and then you can show off your new salsa skills at a party afterward, with DJs spinning the hottest salsa tunes.

Movies in the Park: “Little Giants”

Where: Sol Lain Playground, East Broadway and Henry St., Lower East Side
When: 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Catch a free screening of “Little Giants,” starring Rick Moranis and Ed O’Neill. Moviegoers are encouraged to bring their own picnic blanket or chair and may also bring snacks.

The Hirschfeld Century: Portrait of an Artist and His Age
Where: Barnes & Noble, 150 E. 86th St., Upper East Side
When: 7 p.m.

Author David Leopold spent more than 20 years working with artist Al Hirschfeld. His gorgeous book spans Hirschfeld's 82-year career with 360 of his drawings.

Wednesday, August 19:

Honey Harvest Festival

Where: Voelker Orth Museum, 149-19 38th Ave., Flushing 
When: 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Watch beekeepers harvest honey and make some bee-inspired art during this family friendly event. There will also be a honey-tasting table. Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children (free for kids under 3).

From the Page to the Screen: “Malcolm X”

Where: Restoration West Plaza, 1938 Fulton St., Bed-Stuy
When: 8 p.m. 

Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation hosts its weekly, free outdoor film series, with movies adapted from literary works of African-American authors. Check out “Malcolm X,” directed by Spike Lee and starring Denzel Washington and Angela Bassett.

Free Outdoor Yoga: An Evening Salute to the Sun

Where: The plaza at 66th St. in Riverside Park
When: 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Enjoy a free hatha yoga class, taught by instructor Hollis Lewis, as the sun sets on the river. Participants are advised to wear comfortable clothing and to bring their own yoga mats.

Don Rice's Bringing Up the Bodies Lecture

Where: Dyckman Farmhouse Museum, Inwood
When: 7:00 PM

Learn more about how fascinating burial sites really are from Uptown historian Don Rice. This is the second lecture in Don Rice's LOST INWOOD Encore Lecture Series.

Jazz Thursdays in Forest Hills

Enjoy this free outdoor jazz concert, featuring Richard Boulger and his After Hours Band. The show is part of the Jazz Thursdays series, offered by the Forest Hills Chamber of Commerce. Seating will be provided.

Trombonist Art Baron Jazz Performance

Where: Roosevelt Island’s Four Freedoms Park
When: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., rain date on August 27 at the same time.

Art Baron, who is a former member of the Duke Ellington Orchestra, will perform standards from the early jazz age.
