CRIME BLOTTER: Man Beats Teen With Broomstick on Street

CLINTON HILL — A man was arrested for beating up a teenage boy with a broomstick on the street, NYPD said.

James Tobar, 23, pled guilty to misdemeanor assault after hitting a 15-year-old boy with a broomstick on Lefferts Place August 3, NYPD said. Tobar threw a glass bottle at the boy, then struck him multiple times on his head, knee, arm, and thumb, according to court documents, causing lacerations and seriously injuring the boy, authorities said.

Tobar was charged with assault with intent to cause physical injury and was given a conditional discharge.

His attorney did not respond to a request for comment.

Other recent crimes in the 88th Precinct, according to NYPD:

►A 56-year-old woman was taken to the hospital after an unidentified suspect hit her over the head with a microwave at the Auburn shelter in Fort Greene, NYPD said. The woman was charging her phone Aug. 5 in the shelter’s cafeteria when the suspect took a microwave and hit her on the head, police said. The suspect fled, according to authorities, and the victim was taken to Brooklyn Hospital with complaints of head and neck pain.

►An unknown suspect threw a brick at a 56-year-old stranger, hitting him in the head, at the corner of Adelphi Street and Myrtle Avenue Aug. 5 at around 7:15 p.m., NYPD said. The victim was taken to Brooklyn Hospital.

►Two men were arrested for smashing a woman’s cell phone at the Whitman Houses around 8:15 p.m. Aug. 2, according to NYPD. “I took the phone, I broke the phone, I don’t like her,” one of the arrested suspects told police, they said.

►A 71-year-old who asked two people to help her use an ATM was swindled out of $224.30, police said. A 52-year-old woman and a 48-year-old man were arrested for removing money from her account around 9 p.m. Aug. 4 at the 10 Star Deli on Myrtle Avenue.

►A 2009 Nissan Maxima parked on North Portland St. and Park Avenue was stolen off the street Aug. 3. Other similar incidents include a 2013 Nissan that was parked just around the corner on Saint Edwards and Park and disappeared between midnight Aug. 4 and 3 p.m. Aug. 5. A 2005 Mitsubishi Galant parked outside 161 South Oxford St. the night of Aug. 3 was gone by Aug. 4.

►A woman’s tires and Infiniti rims worth $5,200 were stripped off her car parked outside 230 Willoughby Avenue Aug. 6.

► A Cannondale bike was stolen out of a hallway at 91 Grand Ave. Aug. 9, police said. In other incidents, a couple's bikes were stolen from out front of their Myrtle Avenue apartment Aug. 5 and a Trek bike was stolen off the street on Fulton Aug. 9.

►A MacBook and a Nintendo 3DS were stolen from a Clinton Avenue bedroom around 2:15 p.m. on Aug 8. The thief snuck in a front window, the NYPD said. Another MacBook was stolen from the construction site at 250 Ashland Place, along with a 14-year-old Apple Powerbook and an iPad stolen out of a woman's car August 6.

►A Samsung LCD TV was stolen off a Best Buy truck paked at Cumberland and Greene Aug. 3.
