International African Arts Festival

Where: Commodore Barry Park, Navy Street between Park and Flushing avenues, Fort Greene
When: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday through Sunday

Celebrate the African Diaspora in Brooklyn with family-friendly activities, vendors and entertainment at the 44th Annual International African Arts Festival. Rapper Talib Kweli is set to perform, along with jazz musician Norman Connors and rock band Living Colour. There is a $5 suggested donation for adults, $2 for children.

“Without a Stitch” at the Erotic Cinema series

Where: Nitehawk Cinema, 136 Metropolitan Ave., Williamsburg
When: 12:15 a.m., Friday and Saturday

Nitehawk’s yearlong series of Scandinavian films from the 1960s and 1970s that put sexuality on full displays continues this weekend with midnight screenings on Friday and Saturday nights of “Without a Stitch,” a film about a high school student who seeks help from a doctor after her first sexual attempt “goes awry.” Tickets are $11 each.

Friday, July 3

90s Dance Party

Where: Threes Brewing, 333 Douglass St., Gowanus
When: 10 p.m.

Dancers are encouraged to bring “yo booty” to a 1990s-themed dance party with DJ Susan Z. Anthony at the combination brewery and event space in Gowanus, Threes Brewing. Admission is free.

"How to Make it in Black America, Pt. 1"

Where: Jack Theater, 505 Waverly Ave., Clinton Hill
When: 8 p.m.

This variety show uses poetry, spoken word, video and audio to comment on the current state of race relations in the U.S. The show will be performed by the artist collective Brooklyn Gypsies. Tickets are $20 and include a light snack.

Friends-with-Benefits Art Show

Where: Grumpy Bert, 82 Bond St., Downtown Brooklyn
When: 12 to 6 p.m.

This art show located in artsy gift shop Grumpy Bert features Brooklyn-based artists Brandon Sines and Ramiro Davaro-Comas showing a variety of works including prints, murals, illustrations and more.

Saturday, July 4

Braven’s Bushwick Pilsner Launch and Free Barbecue

Where: Left Hand Path, 89 Wyckoff Ave., Bushwick
When: 2 to 6 p.m.

Bushwick’s new brewing company Braven is launching its pilsner Saturday with free hamburgers, hot dogs and more. The pilsner is a “Bushwick Pilsner” — made with a recipe inspired by the same beers that historic local breweries made in the 1900s.

Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog-Eating Contest

Where: Surf and Stillwell avenues, Coney Island
When: The women’s competition begins at 11 a.m.; the men’s side at 12:30 p.m.

Brooklyn’s gluttonous summer tradition is back. The popular competition, which draws tens of thousands of spectators each year, will see world record holder Joey Chestnut face off against 22-year-old Matt Stonie in the men’s competition and Sonja Thomas compete against Miki Sudo on the women’s side. Pre-show festivities will begin at 10 a.m. with musical performances. Admission is free.

Celebrate Independence Day at Prospect Park

Where: Various locations in Prospect Park   
When: 12 to 5 p.m.

Kids can make a plumed hat and sign a copy of the Declaration of Independence at the Lefferts Historic House. Learn how the bald eagle became America's symbol of independence at the Audobon Center and ride the park's 1912 carousel. Admission is free with various suggested donations.

Bed-Stuy First Saturdays Art Walk    

Where: Art galleries throughout Bedford-Stuyvesant
When: 12 to 9 p.m.

Take a self-guided, free tour of Bed-Stuy’s galleries as cultural centers and local businesses open their doors to showcase neighborhood talent. Stop by the House of Gallery for their new exhibit, “AFROS: A Celebration of Natural Hair,” or watch short films at the Luminal Theater pop-Up space. Pick up a brochure of participating venues at Fulton Park.

“Release the 'Merican Beast” Dance Party

Where: The Grand Victory, 245 Grand St., Williamsburg
When: 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.

This Fourth of July dance party will have more than just America-themed booze and music. In true U-S-A fashion, there will also be displays of brute strength and the overconsumption of trans fats: an arm wrestling contest after a doughnut-eating competition. America! Admission is free.

Sunday, July 5

Punderdome 3000

Where: Littlefield, 622 Degraw St., Gowanus
When: Doors at 7:30 p.m., show at 8 p.m.

Watch wordsmiths battle it out on stage at Punderdome 3000, a tournament style competition to see who can make the best puns, hosted by a father and daughter comedy team. Tickets cost $6 in advance, $7 at the door.

Zumba at Brooklyn Bridge Park

Where: Pier 2 Play Turf
When: 4:30 p.m.

Dance your way to fitness at Zumba classes held at the park on summer Sundays. Dodge YMCA fitness instructor Alma Bonilla will lead the sessions. Registration begins at 4 p.m. and admission is free.
