CROWN HEIGHTS — A Crown Heights man is under arrest this week after shooting his own son in the foot following a heated argument, police said.

Gilbert Woodford, 48, and his 28-year-old son were fighting in their Carroll Street home between Nostrand and New York avenues around 9:30 p.m. Thursday night, police said, when the fight spilled onto the street.

That’s when the men began throwing punches, witnesses said, and Woodford pulled out a handgun and shot the younger man once in the foot.

Local police took Woodford into custody shortly afterwards, where he remained Friday afternoon. Sources say he will be charged with assault in the second degree.

The shooting is unrelated to any of the other recent shootings in the neighborhood, sources said, including an attempted shooting two blocks north of Thursday’s incident in which the targeted victims chased down and tackled their would-be gunman, holding him until police arrived.
