Crown Heights Hit With 3 Shootings Within 4 Days This Week, Police Say

CROWN HEIGHTS — Three shootings happened in the area within four days this week — sending one man to the hospital, damaging parked cars and leading to an hour-long suspect search involving an NYPD helicopter, police said.

The most recent shooting occurred Monday night near the corner of Bedford Avenue and Carroll Street in Crown Heights, where officers from the 71st Precinct responded to reports of shots fired by suspects on bicycles.

There were no injuries in the incident, but police searched the area with the help of a helicopter, which circled the neighborhood for about an hour, police said.

Three teens were questioned in the shooting, sources said, and a gun was found inside a backpack in the driveway of a Sullivan Place home near Dodger Playground, but no arrests have been made. Investigators believe the incident was gang-related.

No one was injured in the June 8 shooting, though two cars parked on Bedford Avenue — a Mercedes sedan and a Ford Taurus — were damaged by bullets, officials said.

Previously, on Saturday, June 6, a 24-year-old man was shot in the butt and leg by a male suspect as he was walking home around 1 a.m. on Bedford Avenue just south of President Street, police said.

He was treated at Kings County Hospital and released, officials said. It’s unclear if the victim knew his attacker and no arrests have yet been made.

More shots were fired on June 5 on Carroll Street near Washington Avenue, police said.

A resident of a nearby apartment building told police he heard multiple shots at about 7:20 p.m. He said he saw a man on Carroll Street shooting a black handgun toward Washington Avenue. The suspect fled north on the avenue and has not yet been identified, police said.

There were no injuries in that incident, police said.
