EAST HARLEM — Aguilar Library on 110th Street opened Monday morning after being closed for more than seven months.

The library shut its doors on Nov. 3 to undergo a $970,000 renovation that included new air conditioning units, hot water pumps, a web-based temperature control system, and a new alarm system, according to Amy Geduldig, a New York Public Library spokeswoman.

For babysitter Beverley Jackson, the opening could not have come soon enough.

"I'm excited," she said. "A lot of parents don't have anywhere to send their children in the summer time."

She looks forward to taking advantage of the new air conditioning system and all of the child-friendly events that the library offers, she added.

The library’s June activity calendar includes live Brazilian music this Thursdaypen-pal writing with children from 115th Street Library in central Harlem June 22, and a kick off party for the teen summer reading program on June 25.

There will also be an expert from the New Canaan Nature Center to teach kids about which animal characteristic make heroes like Spider-Man, Batman, and Aquaman so super.

While the library was closed, residents had to go to the 125th Street Library or other nearby branches like the one on 96th Street and Lexington Avenue or the one on 124th Street and Fifth Avenue.

"This is very convenient," Jackson said.
