BROOKLYN — Two Port Authority officers were injured while they were helping to pursue two men fleeing authorities from New Jersey across Staten Island, according to officials.

Two men wanted by U.S. Marshals in New Jersey fled authorities through the Garden State across Staten Island and into Brooklyn Tuesday afternoon before being caught, officials said.

Port Authority officers and police from the 121st Precinct joined marshals chasing the two men accused of aggravated assault as they made a getaway in a blue Chevy sedan from Red Bank, NJ, across the Outer Bridge onto the Staten Island Expressway, according to sources and Port Authority.

The suspects slammed into the back of a marked Port Authority police car near the Victory Boulevard exit of the expressway, a Port Authority spokesman said.

Police then asked MTA Bridges and Tunnels officers to close down the eastbound lane of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, an MTA spokeswoman said.

A roadblock was set up on the Staten Island Expressway, the spokeswoman, but the wanted men found a way around the blockade and the chase continued into Brooklyn.

The two men were arrested in Brooklyn at the intersection of 14th Avenue and Cropsey Avenue at about 2:08 p.m., according to police.

The two Port Authority officers were taken to Richmond University Hospital in stable condition.

It was no immediately clear what finally caused the men to stop their vehicle.

The men were expected to be transported back to the 121st Precinct where they will be charged.
