ELMHURST — A man arrested in August for a stabbing attack in front of a furniture store was re-arrested Thursday and charged with the murder of another man days earlier, police said.

Jefferson Pachon-Pineda, 24, of Middle Village, allegedly stabbed 50-year-old Mukesh Patel in the lobby of his Elmhurst apartment building in a daytime attack on Aug. 22., police said.

Patel was pronounced dead at Elmhurst Hospital.

Surveillance video captured the suspect running from the apartment at 83-45 Broadway after the brutal attack, according to the NYPD.

It's not clear if he and the victim knew each other, or what prompted the attack, police said.

Pachon-Pineda was first arrested Aug. 24 after allegedly stabbing a man in front of a nearby furniture store at 86-10 Queens Blvd. earlier that day, according to the police.

He stabbed the victim in the chest with a knife then fled, and the victim was treated at a hospital for his injuries, according to the criminal complaint.

Other circumstances of that case were not immediately clear.

Pachon-Pineda was charged with attempted murder and assault in the Aug. 24 attack, police said. He pleaded not guilty to those charges and was being held without bail, according to state records.

His lawyer could not be reached for comment.
