ROCKAWAY BEACH — The trendy Playland Motel's building is up for sale, but the popular bar and artist-designed space is not in danger of closing, the owner said.

The motel, at 97-20 Rockaway Beach Blvd., in Rockaway Beach, is being hawked for nearly $3.8 million, according to a listing by the Marcus & Millichap Real Estate Investment Brokerage Company.

It touts the 6,600-square-foot building — with 12 hostel-style rooms designed by artists and ground-floor commercial space that includes a bar and pizza restaurant — and nearly as much square footage outside in the back garden.

But the motel and bar, which opened in 2013, will remain open for at least two more decades, according to James Wiseman, an owner.

The owners are selling the building they bought in 2012 to pay off their initial investors, but are locked into a 20-year lease with the motel, he said. They purchased it for $1.1 million, according to city records.

"It allows us to realize gains for our investors while maintaining the continuity of the brand," Wiseman told DNAinfo New York in an email.

They purchased the former bar with rooms on the second floor in 2012, before Hurricane Sandy hit the peninsula.

It's currently home to the Playland Tavern, a bar and restaurant, and Whit's End, a specialty pizza place.
