CLINTON HILL — A 19-year-old woman was struck by a motorist while was crossing Atlantic Avenue near Washington Avenue in Clinton Hill Friday morning, witnesses and the FDNY said.

The woman was walking in the crosswalk with a group of approximately seven people, including a woman with a baby, when a driver making a left hand turn accelerated and hit her at 8:18 a.m., witnesses and the FDNY said.

It is unclear why the motorist sped up. The driver remained on the scene, the FDNY said.

The woman flew into the air and then hit the driver's windshield — smashing it, according to witnesses.

The woman was taken to Kings County Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, according to the FDNY.

The woman was shaken and seemed to be in shock as she was lying in the street waiting for the ambulance to arrive, witness Eric Street said.

Pedestrian safety is a major issue in the 88th Precinct, where earlier this week a 34-year-old man was struck and killed in a hit-and-run at Flatbush and DeKalb avenues and last month an elderly woman was struck and killed by a dump truck while crossing Flatbush Avenue.
