FLUSHING — A man attacked his family with a barbell in their Flushing home Wednesday night, bashing the heads of his 7-year-old son, wife and mother-in-law, sources said.

The 49-year-old man, whose name was not immediately released, tore through the Jasmine Street home, near 165th Street, about 9 p.m., police said.

Afterwards, shocked neighbors looked on as medical crews wheeled the battered family out on stretchers.

"They were bleeding. The [mother] had a bandage around her head. They brought the boy out. He was so shocked. He wasn't crying or anything. He was on the stretcher with his grandma," said next-door neighbor Jessica Kan, 17.

The boy suffered three blunt force trauma wounds to his head, according to sources who could not specify the nature of his wounds.

The father broke both his wife's eye sockets and knocked out some of her teeth, sources said.

The 77-year-old grandmother suffered cuts to the top of her head, police said.

The three victims, whose names were not released, were listed in stable condition at area hospitals, police said.

The father also had cuts on his neck and chest, which investigators believe may have been self inflicted, sources said. He was taken, in police custody, to New York Hospital Queens where he was listed in critical condition, according to the NYPD.

It was not immediately clear why he turned on his family. Police said their investigation was ongoing.
