WEST BRIGHTON — A local arts group will bury its traditional swanky $300-a-plate fundraiser and resurrect it as a zombie walk on the streets of West Brighton.

Instead of its usual fundraising gala, Staten Island Arts will host a zombie walk to raise money for its yearly program.

"It kind of got stagnant for us," said Gena Mimozo, grant organizer for the group.

"[The walk is] a little more fun, it's a little more accessible to the community. We're definitely more of a people's organization and we decided to bring the gala to the people."

The "Staten Island Zombie Apocalypse" will take over the Forest Avenue and North Burger Avenue on Saturday as a horde of the undead will lurch their way from the Silver Lake Tennis Courts to Nurnberger Bierhalle.

Businesses along the route will also offer specials during the walk for the undead. Tickets cost $10 for an individual, $25 for families and $50 for all you can eat and drink after-party specials.

After the walk, attendees will descend upon Nurnberger Bierhalle.

"If this goes well we might do this again," said Mimozo. "I think it could be something that really brings the community out in October."

The "Staten Island Zombie Apocalypse" walk will start at 12:30 p.m. at the Silver Lake Tennis Courts on the corner of Hart Boulevard and Revere Street. Each ticket comes with a gift bag. For more information, or to purchase tickets, check out this website.
