UPPER WEST SIDE — A 73-year-old woman hit by a car on West End Avenue Sunday died from her injuries Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Cydney S. Arther was walking west across the avenue at 90th Street without the crosswalk signal when she was hit about 7:55 p.m by a man driving a 2008 Nissan, the NYPD said.

The 87-year-old driver was headed northbound on West End Avenue and stayed at the scene after the crash, police said. He is not suspected of any criminality, according to police.

Arther, who suffered a severe head injury, lived just across the street from where she was hit, police said. She had lived in her building for 40 years, according to a neighbor.

She was rushed to St. Luke's Hospital and treated in the ICU, according to Capt. Marlon Larin of the 24th Precinct. She died Wednesday at 2:27 p.m., he said.

The crash was the third in which a pedestrian was killed while crossing West End Avenue between West 90th and West 97th streets in the past nine months. Pedestrians killed in the previous two crashes had the right of way while crossing.

"It's horrendous," said Lisa Price, a talent agent who lived in Arther's building.

Though Price has seen an increased police presence on the avenue in recent months, she said she often sees cars speeding on West End Avenue.

"It's frightening being that it is so heavily populated with kids," she said.
