COLUMBIA STREET WATERFRONT DISTRICT — Vice Media is organizing an exclusive 1,000-person private party at Pier 9A this week — but it’s still waiting on final permission to use the venue.

“Nights by Absolut,” an invite-only event from Absolut Vodka that's hosted by Vice Media, will take place on Sept. 12 from 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. at the Red Hook Container Terminal, according to Community Board 6.

But officials from the Port Authority for New York and New Jersey, which manages the terminal, said that organizers have yet to sign a final contract with the agency.

“The terms of the agreement are still being negotiated,” said Port Authority spokeswoman Lenis Rodrigues.

Event planners expect to have roughly 1,000 people, but the Pier will prepare for up to 1,500 attendees, CB6 said in an emailed alert Monday night. The event will feature music producer Araabmuzik and musician Alvin Risk, according to one online listing

According to an emailed fact sheet from CB6, a shuttle bus will transport invitees from the terminal to the F, G and R subway station Fourth Avenue and Ninth Street from 6 p.m. to midnight. Guests will enter the party at 70 Van Brunt St. near Degraw Street.

Vice Media declined to comment for this story, but were “finalizing all details of event permitting and compliances” with Port Authority for “activities, operations and production construction occurring inside of [the Container Terminal],” according to the notice from CB6.

Escape Music Festival, a massive two-day concert, is also being planned for Pier 9A next month. That festival’s organizers began promoting and selling thousands of tickets without final permission from Port Authority. CB6 will host a presentation with organizers and officials on Sept. 17 to discuss the event.

The terminal’s independent operator did not respond to request for comment.
