WILLIAMSBURG — J. Crew's hipper younger sister brand Madewell confirmed its first Brooklyn location is moving into Williamsburg this week.

The women's clothing brand — known for its denim and button-up shirts — will be opening at 127 North Sixth Street, a Madewell spokeswoman confirmed to DNAinfo New York.

The store's opening was first reported by New York magazine.

Madewell's opening comes on the heels of news that J. Crew will be opening a location at 234 Wythe Ave. in mid September.

The store is part of a long line of major chains making their mark on the neighborhood, from Whole Foods and Starbucks to Urban Outfitters and Diesel.

Other openings in the area include:

► Upscale salad and juice chain sweetgreen will be opening a Williamsburg location in late October or early November this year, according to a spokeswoman.

At 162 N. Fourth St., it will be across the street from the future Whole Foods. The East Coast chain serves seasonal salads, cold-pressed juices and frozen yogurt with organic Stonyfield yogurt.

► The Commodore's Stephen Tanner plans on opening a Mexican barbecue and fried chicken place in East Williamsburg, according to New York magazine.

The menu for El Cortez at 17 Ingraham St. isn't totally set, but the restaurant is slated to open sometime in October.

► Popular Williamsburg boutique Catbird plans on debuting a wedding-focused shop next month, as first reported by Crain's New York.

The new shop at 540 Driggs Ave. will be an "intimate environment" for brides-and-grooms-to-be to look at engagement rings and wedding bands, owners said.
