MIDTOWN — Longtime Eighth Avenue porn shop DVD Depot has closed after its building was bought by a developer.

Thor Equities paid $12 million for the sex shop's building at 725 Eighth Ave. and West 45th Street last year and is now marketing the recently emptied space for retail. DVD Depot's closure was first reported by Jeremiah's Vanishing New York.

Along with other porn stores, like nearby Gotham City, DVD Depot was one of the few reminders of Times Square's seedier past. The shop sold porn, lingerie and sex toys, and also had booths in the back where customers could watch adult films.

According to Thor's listing for the location, the spot "offers approximately 7,505 [square feet] across 4 floors and a mezzanine, allowing brands plenty to accompany already flourishing retailers in one of NYC’s most active neighborhoods."

The listing added, "725 Eighth Avenue is unmatched in terms of visibility in New York City."

Porn shops in the area have made some small attempts to bring in Times Square's many tourists: In 2012, Gotham City successfully attracted female tourists with a "Grey Area," inspired by the "Fifty Shades of Grey" novels.

"They don't want us here anymore," said a customer leaving Gotham City on Wednesday before walking away.

A spokeswoman for Thor Equities did not respond to requests for comment.
