ST. GEORGE — The city's only outlet mall announced its first tenant Wednesday — Nordstrom Rack.

The soon-to-be under-construction Empire Outlets, being built next to the planned New York Wheel and close to the St. George Ferry Terminal, will become home to the two-floor clothing store in 2016, the retailer and developer BFC Partners announced on Wednesday.

“We’ve been focused on finding the best locations across New York City and are thrilled to have the opportunity to serve New Yorkers and tourists alike at this major transportation hub and destination that will combine great retail, entertainment and restaurants," said Geevy Thomas, president of Nordstrom Rack.

The nearly 350,000 square-foot outlet mall is planned to have 100 designer stores, restaurants and cafes and is part of a large wave of developments hitting St. George's waterfront.

The mall will sit next to a ferris wheel, which seeks to be the largest in the world when it opens, and a 190-room hotel and banquet hall, also developed by BFC.

The Staten Island location will be Nordstrom Rack's seventh in the state. The company is also planning to open stores in Brooklyn and Queens in the fall.
