EAST NEW YORK — Firefighters rescued three brothers from a burning apartment at the Pink Houses Tuesday afternoon, officials and witnesses said.

The fire broke out on the fourth floor of 1308 Loring Ave. at about 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, injuring the boys and an unidentified 55-year-old woman, a fire department spokesman said.

Celeste Wright was at home above the fourth floor apartment when the fire broke out.

"I saw the smoke coming up and I heard kids yelling, and I called the fire department," she said.

When Wright came outside, she saw two children being taken out the window. A third boy, soot-covered and not moving, was rushed out the front door.

The three boys, ages 4, 5 and 8, whose and names were not immediately known, were all taken to Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, with smoke inhalation, according to the FDNY. They were listed in stable condition.

The woman was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

Omar White, 33, who lives in the building said the fourth and fifth floor hallways filled with smoke.

He was in his apartment playing a video game when he heard flames crackling like a fireplace.

"I had the window open and the curtain closed, and once I moved it, it [the smoke] hit me right in my face."

White ran downstairs where he also saw the child being brought out the front door.

"He was out of it," White said. "Everyone just started crying."

The fire department does not have an immediate cause for the fire.

One other adult was treated at the scene, but refused to be taken to the hospital.
