Thief Steals Woman's iPhone From Baby Stroller, Police Say

CHELSEA — A thief snatched an iPhone from a woman's baby stroller on a Chelsea sidewalk this week, police said.

The 34-year-old victim was pushing her baby carriage along Eighth Avenue near West 28th Street about 9:50 a.m. on April 28 when the thief grabbed her $400 iPhone 5 and fled, police said.

Police described the suspect as a 5-foot-7 man with short black hair who was last seen wearing dark blue jeans, white sneakers and a black T-shirt.

No arrests had been made as of Thursday.

Other recent crimes in the 10th Precinct include:

► An English tourist who brought a woman back to his hotel room in Chelsea last month woke up the next morning to find that his two iPads and Ray-Ban sunglasses had been stolen, police said.

The victim, a 37-year-old man, met the woman at a bar about midnight on April 25 and then took her back to his room at Hotel Americano, 518 W. 27th St., police said.

When he woke up at 11 a.m., the woman was gone — and so were two iPads worth $400 and $300 apiece, a $250 pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses, a $250 Sony phone and $60 cash, police said.

No arrests had been made as of Thursday.

► A woman had her $2,000 Chanel handbag stolen after she left it hanging on the back of her chair at a Chelsea bar, police said.

The victim, 31, told police she was talking with friends at Bathtub Gin, 132 Ninth Ave. near 18th Street, about 1 a.m. on April 27 when she turned around and discovered her bag was gone, according to the police report.

In addition to the black Chanel bag, the woman also lost her $650 iPhone 5, plus her driver's license, keys and debit card, police said.
