ELMHURST — A man was in critical condition Tuesday after being hit by a van while crossing a busy intersection near LeFrak City, police and witnesses said.

The man was walking on Junction Boulevard about 10 a.m. when a commercial van struck him while turning left onto 57th Avenue, according to a witness.

"I just looked and saw the van hit him in the chest," said Narod John, 60, who was across the street outside a deli when the crash happened.

"The van hit him in the crosswalk and he flew in the air."

John said the driver stopped after he struck the victim, and police arrived shortly afterward.

A police officer at the scene said the driver hadn't been charged and the NYPD didn't suspect any criminality.

The driver didn't receive any summonses, according to the NYPD.

The victim, who has not been identified, was in critical condition at Elmhurst Hospital, according to the NYPD.
