QUEENSBORO PLAZA — Developers broke ground Tuesday on a new Crowne Plaza Hotel planned for Long Island City, the latest in the neighborhood, which has become known as a hotspot for tourists looking for lodging.

The new Crowne Plaza is being developed by Royal Hotels and Resorts at 25-10 42nd Road, a block south of Queensboro Plaza.

The 11-story building will offer views of Manhattan, with a lobby, banquet hall, bar, restaurant and outdoor garden eatery on its first floor, and 224 guestrooms on the second to 10th floors, according to a statement. The 11th floor will hold a grand ballroom that can fit up to 300 people.

The roof will have a sky bar and lounge with an open deck that the developers say will be a "neighborhood hot spot" for both guests and nearby residents.

The Crowne Plaza is the latest in a slew of hotels that were built in recent years or are being planned for Long Island City.

Several blocks away near the waterfront, the Ravel Hotel at 8-08 Queens Plaza South is constructing a $10 million 10-story expansion that will include a reflecting pool that turns into an ice skating rink for winter.
