QUEENS — An Elmhurst man has been arrested in a hit-and-run that killed a 79-year-old woman as she crossed the street near her Corona home, cops said.

David Rojas, 19, of Elmhurst, was arrested Monday and charged with leaving the scene of the accident after cops said he mowed down Cui Ju Yu, 79, on Junction Boulevard on Sunday.

Rojas was driving a Dodge minivan when he struck the woman and kept driving, police said.

Yu later died at Elmhurst Hospital, cops said.

Workers in a store across the street remembered Yu as a kind woman who came in regularly to buy Chinese newspapers.

"She was a very healthy, nice lady," said Sandy Castillo, 35, who works in the DK & DS Grocery store across the street from the accident.

"She is very sincere, would come in to buy newspapers everyday."

Castillo said she was thankful the surveillance video from her store could help identify the suspect.

"We wanted to catch him," she said. "I thank God we had the video."

Sunday's crash came after two other fatal Queens accidents and a fatal hit-and-run in The Bronx.

A woman was killed when a driver struck her in Queens Plaza Friday night.

On Saturday afternoon, a man and woman died when their motorcycle slammed into an SUV in Ditmars.

And a woman was struck and killed near her Soundview home Sunday morning by a driver who fled the scene.
