Free Trolley Rolls Into East Midtown for Fashion's Night Out

MANHATTAN — A free trolley will bring a taste of San Francisco to New York for Fashion's Night Out next week.

The East Midtown Partnership is sponsoring a free trolley to loop around the neighborhood during the annual fashion celebration on Sept. 6, making it easier for shoppers to access Midtown's high-end retailers.

“It’s a very spread-out district, and there’s a couple of different hubs of activity,” said Rob Byrnes, the president of the East Midtown Partnership. “This could be a good way to help bring in other people and generate some excitement in the area.”

In past years, shoppers have been limited by the distance between stores, Byrnes said. The trolleys should make it easier to visit more shops in less time, he said.

“It is something we want to do to help generate interest in a lot of retailers,” Byrnes said.

The business improvement district is covering the cost of the project.

Shoppers will be free to jump on and hop off the trolleys wherever they’d like along the route, which will make stops along Madison, Park, Lexington and Third avenues in Midtown from 6 to 10 p.m. Sept. 6.

Riders will receive brochures that show the route and list participating stores.
