QUEENS — A drunk off-duty cop was charged with leaving the scene of an accident in Astoria earlier this week, police said.

Ankur Joshi, 35, was charged with driving under the influenceand leaving the scene of an accident after the smashup on Steinway Street and 25th Avenue on Tuesday at 5:45 a.m., according to a spokesman for Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.

Witnesses said that Joshi, who was driving a black Honda Accord, rear-ended a 2012 Toyota Scion and then fled the scene, according to court documents.

But the victim, who was hospitalized for back pain, was able to write down the license plate number.

At the suspect's house they found the damaged car with and discovered Joshi reeking of alcohol, the court documents said.

Joshi, who faces up to a year in jail if convicted, allegedly refused to take a blood alcohol exam.

He was released without bail after his arraignment Tuesday night and police said he was suspended.
