MANHATTAN — Talk about a bad shot.
Knicks star Amar’e Stoudemire reportedly injured his hand punching glass following the team’s second-straight playoff loss to the Miami Heat Monday night and could miss the rest of the first-round series.
The frustrated forward slammed his fist into glass encasing a fire extinguisher moments after New York’s 104-94 loss to the Heat in Miami, causing lacerations that required stitches, ESPNNewYork.com reported.
Stoudemire, who signed a five-year contract with the Knicks worth nearly $100 million in 2010, was seen leaving the arena Monday night with a bandaged left arm supported by a sling.
He later acknowledged the incident via his Twitter account.
"I am so mad at myself right now, I want to apologize to the fans and my team, not proud of my actions, headed home for a new start," he tweeted shortly after midnight Tuesday.
"We all have done things out of anger that we regret. That makes us human. Bad timing on my part. Sorry guys. This to [sic] shall pass," he added a few hours later.
He suffered a cut to his palm that will "almost certainly" force him to miss Game 3 of the best-of-seven series on Thursday at Madison Square Garden.
The Heat blew out the Knicks, 100-67, in Game 1 on Saturday. Stoudemire had 18 points and seven rebounds in Monday’s matchup.
