CHELSEA — Chelsea Market may not be the only place to get farm-fresh meats, fruits, and veggies on the corner of West 15th Street and Ninth Avenue: the group behind the outdoor plaza there is looking set up an outdoor market at the pedestrian oasis.

In a request for proposal issued Thursday morning, the Chelsea Improvement Company is seeking businesses to manage and operate an outdoor public market in the Chelsea Plaza, just steps from Chelsea Market, the High Line, and the Apple store.

In the proposal, the group wrote that it is looking for the market to have a variety of vendors, including ones selling dairy, produce, meat, and prepared food.

The neighborhood improvement organization hopes to open the market by late spring. The market will need approval from the city's Department of Transportation before it can move forward.
