MANHATTAN — After weeks of mild winter weather, Manhattan finally saw its first snow of the season on Friday afternoon.

A light dusting of the white stuff fell about 12:45 p.m., delighting those who've been waiting months for Mother Nature to get into a wintry mood.

The flurry ended after just a few minutes, but for one lucky visitor from Argentina, the mini snow shower was a once in a lifetime experience.

"I'm from Argentina," said a beaming Christian Gomez, 23, of Buenos Aires, where it's summer right now. "I've never seen snow falling out of the sky. It was surprising."

Flurries returned later in the late afternoon, and New Yorkers were excited, taking to Twitter to share their thoughts.

"I hope I will always feel this excited over little snow flurries," tweeted @gracecaudle.

"I saw 4 flurries in nyc today & I got excited," tweeted @DJJDAYZ. "I miss the snow this year."

Meteorologists predicted the flurries wouldn't last long. Friday's forecast called for cloudy skies, increasing winds and possible rain. Sunny skies were predicted for both Saturday and Sunday.

Last year at this time New York was still digging out from a monster blizzard that crippled the city. By contrast, this winter has been one of the warmest in recent memory.
