Cab Jumps Curb in Midtown Injuring Woman Updated December 12, 2011 9:03pm

MIDTOWN — A woman was pinned between a scaffold and a taxicab as the vehicle careened onto a busy sidewalk Monday evening, fire officials said.

The taxicab veered off the road at Sixth Avenue at 54th Street and slammed into the pedestrian just before 8 p.m., fire officials said.

The woman was taken to NYU Hospital and was in stable condition, fire officials said. Firefighters closed off the northwest corner of the sidewalk as they repaired the scaffold.

Workers at the Randolph's Bar & Lounge, in the Warwick Hotel across the street, witnessed the aftermath of the accident and saw the woman lying on the ground but moving.

"I hope the woman is okay," said Diana Pantoja, a server at Randolph's. "Cabs don't belong on the sidewalk. They belong on the street. ... But that's why some people are scared of sidewalks."

The driver was not hurt in the accident, which is still under investigation.
