MANHATTAN SUPREME COURT — Five sitting Manhattan Supreme Court justices are running unopposed in Tuesday's off-year election and are expected to keep their spots on the bench.

The candidates for Manhattan Supreme Court seats are Justice Ellen Gesmer, of Greenwich Village, Justice Deborah Kaplan, of Midtown East, Justice Analisa Torres, of Harlem, and Justices Joan Madden and Laura Visitacion-Lewis, both of the Upper West Side.

All but Torres are currently sitting in the Civil term of Manhattan Supreme Court, according to the New York State Unified Court System's website. Torres hears cases in the Criminal term at the 111 Centre Street courthouse, the site says.

In addition, nine candidates are on the ballot running unopposed for civil court seats in Manhattan. The county-wide candidates include Erika Edwards and Saliann Scarpulla.

Candidates for the Manhattan Civil Court's various districts include Anthony Cannataro and Paul Goetz of the 3rd District; Alexander Tisch of the 4th District; W. Franc Perry of the 5th District; Harold Adler of the 6th District; Raymond Bruce of the 7th District; and Barbara Jaffe of the 9th District.

Civil court judges are elected to decade-long terms while Supreme Court judges are elected to 14-year terms, according to a courts Voter Guide. The civil courts in New York City generally handle all civil actions involving claims up to $25,000.

None of the civil court candidates are running opposed.
