UPPER WEST SIDE — An off-duty police officer was assaulted and robbed of his gun on the Upper West Side near Riverside Park Thursday night, according to the NYPD.

The officer's service weapon was taken from him as he struggled with an unidentified man at Riverside Drive and 91st Street around 10:45 p.m, police said.

During the struggle, shots were fired. The officer was taken to St. Luke's Hospital with minor lacerations from the struggle, but no bullet wounds, according to the NYPD.

After the incident, the NYPD used a helicopter to search the park.

The gun was recovered later Thursday night in the park, police said.  Investigators are still searching for the officer's attacker.
