MANHATTAN--Carted on packed ferries to Governors Island, thousands of music fans attended the first Governors Ball Saturday.

The one-day, two-stage festival included sets by Empire of the Sun, Neon Indian, Mac Miller and Girl Talk.

The electro-indie sets began at noon and lasted until midnight, with Pretty Lights' digital sampling and light show closing the event.

The fans meandered around the spacious grounds for beer, hot dogs, beach volleyball and art installations.

Governor's Island, which reopened for the season May 27, hosts a wide range of art events this year, including the Dave Matthews Band Caravan in August and the interactive art festival FIGMENT in early June.
