MANHATTAN CRIMINAL COURT — The man accused of shooting an event promoter on a party boat docked at the South Street Seaport in 2009 was convicted of murder Thursday, prosecutors said.
Londell Squire, 23, faces life in prison for the August 2009 shooting, which took the life of party promoter Omar Trent.
The incident occurred after several fights broke out on the party boat, causing many of the 400 guests to rush off the boat, prosecutors said. Squire, of Brooklyn, was one of the people who left the boat, but he returned with a gun, according to a statement from the Manhattan District Attorney's Office.
On his way back, Squire ran into Trent, recognized him from the fight and shot him in the head, the statement said.
Squire then fled the scene in Dodge Caravan, but not before witnesses were able to take down his license plate number, according to the statement.
Police eventually caught up with Squire in Petersburg, VA, where he was hiding out.
On Thursday, he was convicted of second degree murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
He is scheduled to be sentenced May 17, 2011.
