MANHATTAN SUPREME COURT — A Columbia business school student charged with brutally attacking a woman just outside the campus gates, then kicking an NYPD officer in the face, pleaded not guilty on Wednesday.

Ash Sinha, 28, an MBA candidate at Columbia Business School, was arraigned in Manhattan Supreme Court Tuesday on two charges of assault, including a felony assault charge for allegedly kicking an officer in the face and resisting arrest April 3.

Sinha allegedly attacked a 22-year-old woman who is not a student at Columbia as she walked past the campus gates at 116th Street and Broadway. As a group of onlookers and Columbia security officers tried to restrain Sinha, he continued to lash out, prosecutors said.

After his arrest, Sinha continued to rage against police and medical personnel, allegedly smashing medical equipment while he was being treated for injuries at Harlem Hospital, according to prosecutors. He was eventually transferred to Bellevue's psychiatric ward before he posted bail.

Sinha entered a plea of not guilty at his brief Manhattan Supreme Court appearance on Wednesday.

Assistant District Attorney Elise Roecker said Thursday there will need to be a "significant" investigation into the case before any plea agreement is reached, and added that there is no such deal on the table now.

Sinha did not say anything as he left the court accompanied by his attorney and a relative.
